Tyler Jorgenson (00:01.709)
Welcome out to Biz Ninja Entrepreneur Radio. I am your host Tyler Jorgenson. I’m so excited to have Turner Leslie with us. Turner and I met through the amazing company ClickFunnels doing events and doing all kinds of cool stuff. I love meeting with people who are like making the shift from being an employee to doing something on their own. So before we dive into how the heck are you and what’s going on, like what led you to quit your job? Like what’s going on with Turner?
Turner (00:30.158)
Oh, so crazy. Was at ClickFunnels for five years, had a blast there, met so many amazing people and I just felt like it was time to take a leap of faith. And so work with some of my amazing friends now and we’re building something awesome. So I’m sure we’ll get into that very soon, but just time to take a leap of faith.
Tyler Jorgenson (00:48.109)
Yeah.
So let’s go backwards. I mean, have you done anything entrepreneurial or on your own before? Or is this your first jump into the space?
Turner (00:57.55)
Um, yeah. So I guess in college, I was my first like little jump. So I was super into fitness, still am like crazy, but I wanted to help people. I started to transform my body and lost a bunch of weight. It was getting stronger and I was like, Hey, how can I help what I’m, uh, help people do what I’m doing right now and to see a huge transformation in their bodies and their whole mindset of feeling better and doing the right things.
And so I actually, I had a senior project in college and the business or company was called Turner Get Fit. It was just my Instagram handle and I was training like 30 people at once. Didn’t have a funnel, didn’t have a website or anything. It was honestly just through, have you ever heard of the app called Marco Polo? Okay, so my family uses it. It’s been a blast. But,
Tyler Jorgenson (01:36.909)
Yeah.
Tyler Jorgenson (01:49.965)
Uh -huh.
Turner (01:55.054)
I would send these workouts just through Marco Polo to people that had signed up with me. And it was almost like, hey, I would film myself doing the workout and then I would send it to them and they would do it. It was a blast. It was very low ticket, but it was just really cool to kind of get my feet wet because I was newly married, doing plenty of credits in college, more than the normal load and had a part -time job.
Tyler Jorgenson (02:09.197)
Yeah.
Tyler Jorgenson (02:19.501)
Right.
Turner (02:22.99)
and walking to school and back in the day. So it was like crazy, but it was like the best learning experience for me. And then super good friends with everyone that I was training back then too. So that was my first little leap of faith and first entrepreneurial journey before I even knew what an entrepreneur was. But.
Tyler Jorgenson (02:35.917)
Yeah.
Tyler Jorgenson (02:42.221)
Yeah, I love those school projects that turn into businesses. I think that’s great. And so you were at ClickFunnels for a while, you and some friends are launching something new. Tell us a little bit about what you’re working on as much as you want to share.
Turner (02:47.63)
Exactly.
Turner (02:55.726)
Yeah, so I now work with or work under Chas Wilson. If you don’t know him yet, please go look him up. It’s Chas Wilson. Chas has been in business for years and he has Master Networks. And then him and Jordan Averoa. He’ll get mad if I say his last name wrong, but he’ll just laugh at me. So yeah, so Chas and Jordan are.
business partners and they brought me in and they said hey we want to build this amazing group of entrepreneurs and want to help them to monetize their leads and so we are building up an amazing mastermind group with just the best people so we’re looking to get you know our funnel builder our copywriter our coaches and just all the best people and we have an awesome mastermind that we do monthly we do one once a year that will do
I’m here in Dallas in a few months. And then we also have a really awesome Slack group that we are growing as well. So I’m just extremely excited. I’m a massive cheerleader and a networker. And if I can help anyone in their business, whether it’s marketing, affiliate marketing, affiliate, just affiliate strategy and networking, that is kind of my superpowers. So I’ve had a lot of fun doing that within ClickFunnels.
and within this new gig. So big answer to your question, but can I just one way?
Tyler Jorgenson (04:24.973)
Cool, yeah, no, I like it, I think that’s great. So you were at ClickFunnels for five years and I think one, a lot has happened in that five years of ClickFunnels, right? But not talking as much about them, I wanna talk about you. What were some of the biggest things that you learned working in a high, fast -paced startup environment during that time?
Turner (04:48.142)
Yes, I love click funnels so much Loved it was there love it now and the relationships I was able to build are just like concrete forever To you know, just everyone that works in all the different spots within click funnels Relationships is the biggest thing I learned there. I was technically the relationship manager, which was my role there But everyone I learned
or that I learned from and became close to, which I’m still super close to so many people, which is so awesome. So many memories with the affiliates, with Russell, with some of our sales team, and it was so awesome. I could just rattle off so many memories. But yeah, the biggest thing I learned is just to grasp onto those relationships because you never know what you can do with them and what they can do for you.
Tyler Jorgenson (05:35.981)
Yeah.
Turner (05:43.758)
It just goes so far. I think so many businesses wouldn’t be what they are today without the strong relationships going forward. So it just, it is proof that you got to connect with as many people as you possibly can and to keep that as genuine as you can as well.
Tyler Jorgenson (06:02.093)
Yeah, so you were the relationship manager there and did a lot working with affiliates and things like that. Give me a real, either like an example of something that you had to work through or an example of how important relationships are, right? I wanna get some practical, like give us a backstory and some practical tips that the listeners here can take away and say, okay, this is what I learned about relationships.
Turner (06:25.902)
Yes. You’re familiar with the late Dave Woodward? Yes. Dave taught me so many amazing things. Sometimes I just listen to his podcast and say, Dave, I’m going to listen to you. Give me whatever you can. I have a little belief in that spiritual aspect. But Dave said something years ago. I’m not quite sure where he got this from, what he said. Dig your well before you’re thirsty.
Tyler Jorgenson (06:31.532)
Yes.
Turner (06:55.342)
And that goes on so many different levels, whether it’s business, relationships, sales, whatever it is. But I always have that in the back of my mind. Dig your well before you’re thirsty. And I think that goes so, so far to whether you want to make a deal with someone or just build a relationship or see where things can go. So we built up an amazing team of affiliates that were promoting ClickFunnels.
And it went so far as to, I want to see what this person is doing in their business. I want to see what they do for fun and all that good stuff. So we would kind of follow them on social media, send them fun gifts and that, because that goes a long way in building relationships. We also learned from the awesome Chris Fervos about that ROR method. And so, yeah, being able to dig my will before I’m thirsty and…
Tyler Jorgenson (07:40.045)
Sure. Yeah.
Tyler Jorgenson (07:48.365)
Yeah, absolutely.
Turner (07:54.766)
helping out so many people because you never know what can come from it, not just deals, right, but just becoming close with people. So, so many affiliates that I worked with, it was so awesome to be able to help them out as much as I could, help them to understand the software, see what it can do for their business and going forward. And just being awesome friends with them too helped out a lot. So, yes, so many people and building those relationships as we went for sure.
Tyler Jorgenson (08:17.421)
Yeah, that’s cool.
Tyler Jorgenson (08:21.677)
I like that. So you shared some stuff you learned from Dave Woodward, some stuff you learned from Chris Voss. What are some other things that you learned while working at ClickFunnels that you can apply into what you’re going to be building now?
Turner (08:33.806)
Oh, I got to talk about Russell Brunson, right? I learned so much stuff from Russell Brunson. He is going a million miles a minute, I guess you could say. And he’s such an awesome visionary. I just loved how he was able to see the potential in things and just run with it. Probably better than anyone I know. And for me, in my brain, I was like, wait, but what about this? What about this?
Tyler Jorgenson (08:37.933)
Probably smart.
Turner (09:03.022)
I would never say that in a way. But it was just so awesome that it’s like, okay, but don’t worry about those things. We need to look and see the big picture. And the way that his brand was able to work just was so awesome. And I’ll never forget that, right? So the way that I’m looking at things now is like, okay, let’s look at this big picture. What can we do with this visionary? Why is it to really run with it and really change people’s lives?
because Russell has changed so many lives for the better and is super positive. So that’s what I really want to take into everything that I can to really look in the future and kind of begin with the end in mind, but in so many ways, just better people, better business and run with it.
Tyler Jorgenson (09:50.605)
Yeah, I like that. Whit, you know, you’re out doing something, you’ve got some great team. It sounds like you’re putting together a really cool team with the guys you’re working with now. If you zoom back a little bit, you know, you’ve been in business for a little while, you’ve done some of your own stuff, you worked with ClickFunnels. What’s one of the major like challenges that you faced during that, any of those times, and how’d you overcome it?
Turner (10:15.982)
Oh man, challenges. I gotta think on that a little bit.
Turner (10:26.638)
I guess.
Turner (10:31.63)
working with different people in different ways and understanding people. Not that it was a huge challenge, but I always wanted to have a strategy in place and to be able to help someone out. And so the challenge was, okay, let’s back up a little bit. So with affiliate marketing, it’s interesting. I looked back to like 2022, 2023.
affiliate marketing was going crazy and even before that for sure. And then since 2024, it’s kind of taking a shift back and it’s more of partnerships rather than individual affiliates. I don’t know if you feel that same way, but in the world today, that partnership thing is a big part of it. So what I’m seeing nowadays is it’s more of entrepreneurs.
JVing with entrepreneurs and then seeing the magic happen from there because well you’ve got amazing marketers and they have Email lists built up and so they can work together and it’s a lot more double -sided working with individual affiliates is kind of hard because you got to keep them excited and Always keep them going and make sure you have a good enough You know work ahead time to be able to excite them and keep them going
Tyler Jorgenson (11:47.853)
Right.
Turner (11:54.734)
So there was always that balance of how do we do that? So that was another thing I learned. And then understanding every affiliate. It was a challenge, but it always kept me excited as well. So yeah, different changes within different cycles and making sure that everyone was taken care of was kind of a fun challenge.
Tyler Jorgenson (12:15.117)
for sure. Now, as you’re going to this new stage of your career, life is not just about work. So what is one item on your personal bucket list that you’re gonna do or accomplish in the next 12 months?
Turner (12:29.71)
Oh man, I was talking about this yesterday on a podcast. Yes, work is just a little part of my life. I have, I know this is gonna be just audio as well, but I have two little boys that are my absolute favorite.
Yeah, so that’s why I work so hard to be able to be able to work as hard as I can in this office of mine. But as soon as I leave that door, it’s like, okay, let’s go play. And so my my whole I don’t know if it’s a bucket list item, but like, anything I can do to just be with my little boys is like my thing. And so we try to spend as many hours as we can outside to be able to be with them as much as possible.
And that’s a big thing. My beautiful wife is just so awesome as well. So they’re my best friends. So like work is a little thing, but like the relationships I can build with my family make everything better. So everything, the success and everything from work will come later. But the big part of the family thing is what really drives me.
Tyler Jorgenson (13:21.325)
Yeah.
Tyler Jorgenson (13:25.485)
Sure.
